    thanks Gisli and Halli.

Yes, Gísli it was a nice weekend and it was a shame not to meet up, but perhaps I am a little inexperienced on the ice anyway. You are welcome to come and visit in Stykkishólmur! There is plenty of ice up here still…

hope your weekend wasn´t too bad in the end – I think the West may have had more sun?

    thanks for the link!

Halli – Yes, I remember meeting you briefly!

enjoy those climbing spots I mention. Also Pembrokeshire in South Wales is really amazing for hundreds of diverse sea cliff climbs – can be like the mediterranean on a good, hot summer day! If you need people to meet to climb with I will put you in touch with friends in Bristol: they need to get out more! h

    thanks Hallí.

there is a unexpected and welcome possibility that I might be travelling up with others on Thursday night now (incl, Freysi possibly?). I hope this works out for me. Otherwise then yes, a lift Friday would be good. I shall call you tmw/text you if I don´t hear more re. potential Thurs lift.

cheers for now, and thanks for the contact numbers

    thanks for this. Very helpful
so I see it is not in Akureyi at all even?

Hmmm, I see the place on the Kortmap. looks a lovely spot, but at present if I drive alone not sure the Clio will make it in!

There may be the chance of alternative accomodation for me anyway presently, although this hut sounds like a really great location.

Yes I hear what you say re. the calls. I already found they are a bit different the other day.

    cheers for now, helen

not sure I´m ready for that freedom! thanks though.

Yes, I was thinking of an extra day. I would like to explore the possibilitiies of the area more fully. so, either Monday or Wednesday I guess. Weather looks warm this week, so maybe Monday might be better (and hope for colder then)?

I have a potential lift up there now though and my partner can´t stay MOnday unfortunately (or go early Tues). So, if I extend my stay then my climbing partner for the weekend would need to get back also; I would not like him to be stranded in Akureyi on Sunday if I stayed longer… although someone could probably help here and give him a ride back??

If you think you would like to stay longer, let me know.

Then we can work out the other details of a ride up for two or us, and possibly a ride back for me with you, and a ride back for him with others.

    this might work! who knows!?!

hæ all – thanks for these replies to my posting. Good to hear some real interest re. the festival. It sounds like a fine weekend is planned, and weather cooling down nicely now! great.

I am sorry that I don´t understand the Icelandic, but a friend translated it for me. Aside Örlygurs comments (thanks!) it seemed there were no specific replies to the question of axes or sharing petrol…

So.. anybody out there who is going and would like to share the ride over there? It would be great to hear from you. My simi is 896 4323. Please give me a call if you are going and would like to help/have company on the drive over. I am very happy to take my car if you want.

    Thanks, helen

Wow, thanks for that postive reply to my posting. Cheers. Good to get the translated schedule – much appreciated! (saves me a lot of dictionary-time…)

Yes, I see that the spring schedule is really quite busy. I will definitely try to get to a few events.

When you say ‘schools’ do you mean the colleges/university centres? sounds good. Anyone out there know more?

Yes, I´m getting to know a little about the Rescue Team out here at Stykkishólmur and am hopefully going to get to hear a little more about other Snæfellsnes based teams through my contact here in town. Just to get out camping and hiking would be good, and climbing a bonus. As I say, missing some axes presently… but have 50m 1/2 rope, harness, hat, (summer) gear, boots, crampons.

Yes, I will try to get to the Ísfestival. Anyone driving up my way/that I could meet at Borganes to share the journey?

    kind regards
    Helen
