{"id":80346,"date":"2022-06-07T17:42:49","date_gmt":"2022-06-07T17:42:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.isalp.is\/?p=80346"},"modified":"2022-06-08T00:43:01","modified_gmt":"2022-06-08T00:43:01","slug":"english-gratitude","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.isalp.is\/en\/problem\/english-gratitude","title":{"rendered":"Gratitude"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Route number 3 &#8211; Gratitude<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">AD, WI3 80m<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Vestri Hnappur is one of the peaks of \u00d6r\u00e6faj\u00f6kull.\u00a0It is located on the south rim of \u00d6r\u00e6faj\u00f6kull.\u00a0The peak is 1851m and you can enter the climb around 1700m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In order to access this peak, we traveled along the antenna access road behind Foss Hotel Glacier Lagoon and up to about 800 meters.\u00a0We came to Stig\u00e1rj\u00f6kull at about 1000 meters and roped up from there to the base of the Vestri Hnappur.\u00a0This ascent was done in April so there were almost no exposed crevasses on the way up to Vestri Hnappur.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This climb is between both\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.isalp.is\/en\/problem\/einhyrningar-pd-wi3-100m\"><span class=\"s1\">Einhyringar<\/span><\/a> and Gnar for Breakfast.\u00a0This path follows the avalanche gully, which is slightly steep but somewhat mellows out after the initial 3 meter steeper section.\u00a0From there, it\u2019s about a 50degree snow climb until the section just below the summit, which is the last tricky area until the walk to the top.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Overall, it\u2019s not very changing climb but the lack of reliable protection makes it one to think about.\u00a0It would do you well to carry 3 snow pickets and use 1 as an intermediate belay and the other 2 to make a bomber anchor to belay up the second.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Lastly, why \u2018Gratitude\u2019?<\/p>\n<p>Being in this country has been a pleasure beyond belief. So much opportunity exists here to learn and grow as an alpinist and a guide.
