Hi all,
I plan to go in some weeks to Eyjafjallajokull. I think to go by Seljavellir (South face).
Is it a very bad idea?
some help to choice the best way will be cool.

The route from Seljavellir is the most common one. It's mostly a gentle slope all the way to the top, and supposed to be brilliant for skiing down (although I haven't tried that myself).
Another option is to start from Skógar, go up Fimmvörðuháls, there you can check out the new mountain witch was formed in the eruption just before the Eyjafjallajökull eruption. From there go west to the Eyjafjallajökull. It is considderably longer route but on the plus side there is a nice hut on Fimmvörðuháls (the one Útivist owns) where you could spend a night.

When do you plan to go?

Hike up from Seljeavellir this past spring ( link )

Its totally worth it in good weather, some 3-6 hours and 20 minutes down

Himmi

Hi,
Thanks for confirmation.
We have been by Skogar in november. unfortunately an alrm clock break down did avery late departure from Skogar.
It's very long but beautifull waterfalls and we reach the middle point between the two hutts.
